Why NEET Exists
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) is the single entrance examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other undergraduate medical courses in India.
- It replaced multiple state and institutional exams, creating one national standard.
- Over 20 lakh candidates appear every year for roughly 1 lakh+ MBBS seats.
- It is the sole gateway to government and private medical colleges (with some exceptions for certain institutions).
Exam Pattern
- Mode: Pen-and-paper (OMR based)
- Duration: 3 hours 20 minutes (200 minutes)
- Total Questions: 180 (to be attempted out of 200 in some recent patterns — check current year)
- Subjects: Physics (45), Chemistry (45), Biology – Botany + Zoology (90)
- Marking: +4 for correct, −1 for incorrect, 0 for unattempted
- Total Marks: 720
- Language: Multiple languages including English and Hindi
